2010-11 Beginning of Year Message
Patrick Dubbs
Superintendent
Wayne Local Schools
2010/2011
It is August and the beginning of a new school year is rapidly approaching. I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and enjoying the summer break. It promises to be another great year for Wayne Local Schools. The beginning of school is always exciting for students new to the district, those entering kindergarten, or current students moving to middle or high school. Waynesville is an excellent school system because of its partnership among teachers, students, parents and the community. A powerful message of respect for learning and school occurs when our staff and parents work together. I strongly recommend early two-way communication. By exchanging information parents and teachers establish the foundation for a successful school year.
We know you as a parent are focused on your child’s future, their safety at school, their ability to develop personal responsibility and a strong work ethic. I encourage that you share with your child’s teacher about favorite school subjects, outside interests and hobbies, any medical or health needs, and things happening at home that may affect school work. Immediately establish the best way to make contact with each other. Email? Phone? We as a school district have upgraded our phone system and will continue to use electronic mail, CNotify, Good News Friday, and the district website. I invite each parent to stay in touch and do not hesitate to follow up.
One of the most important factors in school success is attendance. Begin talking now with your child about why it’s important to be in attendance when school is in session. We enjoy the process of educating and exposing your child to 21st century skills but we cannot challenge students to learn and grow if your child is frequently absent from school. In the next few weeks before school starts; get back into a healthy school routine by eating nutritious food, getting enough sleep, exercising, and reading. Learning builds day by day when students are exposed to discussions, questions, explanations and the thinking that makes learning come alive in a classroom setting.
As we enter the political election season in 2010 and upcoming debates on the next budget for the State of Ohio consider this quote: “The school is that last expenditure upon which Americans should be willing to economize” – Franklin D. Roosevelt. Please take every opportunity to convey the importance of education.
The first day of school is August 24. Please mark your calendars for the many back to school events that will be happening in each building including fall athletic events and extra-curricular activities.
Best wishes for 2010/11
