Patrick Dubbs Superintendent
Superintendent’s Message Online Survey
2nd in a Series
Prior to Spring Break, Wayne Local posted an anonymous online survey on our district website to learn more about our school district.
In my first message I invited stakeholders to contact me and share their thoughts on communication and involvement opportunities. I received comments about not being able to communicate directly with teachers. I agree that communication between parents and teachers is crucial; for that reason the district is currently working on improving our phone system. By the beginning of next school year we will have updated our phones and each teacher and paraprofessional will have their own voice mail. We are extremely excited about bringing our parents and teachers closer together.
Eighty-two percent (82%) of our respondents feel comfortable participating in or volunteering at school events. Currently on the district website and in GNF we discuss how all volunteers and coaches must have a background check on file at Wayne Local Schools. I want all of our volunteers to know we appreciate very much their time and support. We know that being fingerprinted can be a bit of a hassle; however it is an important safeguard for our students. We try very hard to accommodate our volunteers and make the process as simple as possible by offering fingerprinting right here in the school district.
Our survey asked if your child’s school is a safe and secure place to learn. Ninety-two percent (92%) of our respondents say “yes” they “agree” or strongly agree” that our schools are safe and secure. Recently we worked with law enforcement and local K-9 units to do a walk-through of our high/middle school buildings and parking lot. I am proud to say that the dogs did not find anything illegal. It is important that we maintain zero tolerance so our students can focus on learning everyday in an enjoyable and desirable environment. Making school conducive to learning does not happen magically it takes work and partnerships. Recently our 5th graders graduated from the DARE program in conjunction with the Warren County Sheriff Department. The emphasis is helping our students make “good decisions.” This weekend “after-prom” will be held at the high school. We anticipate a very large percentage of our students attending this safe and well coordinated event. An event like the “after-prom” could never occur without the volunteer efforts of parents combined with community donations. On behalf of the school district – Thank you. Over the next weeks I will continue to share specific survey results. Spartan Pride Community Wide
