8TH GRADER ADVANCES TO STATE WRITING COMPETITION

Christopher Poole, an 8th grade student at Waynesville Middle School, has advanced to the state Power of the Pen Writing Competition on May 20 & 21 at the College of Wooster.

Chris advanced to the state competition through his creative writing, at both the district and regional competitions, during the 2009-2010 school year. Chris was part of the 8th Grade Power of the Pen Team, coached by Ms. Wilcox, 8th Grade Language Arts teacher. Mr. Hamen, 10th grade English teacher and former Power of the Pen winner, also helped the Power of the Pen team prepare for competition.

Chris, a student in Mrs. Philpot’s Advanced Reading class, also participates in Band and is an Office Aide. He is the son of Tracey and Alan Poole.

The Power of the Pen competition is an award-winning competition for 7th & 8th grade students in Ohio. This year, over 7,500 students in Ohio participated in Power of the Pen competitions. More information on Power of the Pen can be found at http://www.powerofthepen.org/index.htm
