Superintendent’s Message
December 20, 2010
Last week the temperature started dropping and without a doubt the holiday season is moving into high gear. Here in our office Helen Voiles has the sounds of the season playing on the radio. One particular song seems to continually catch my attention this year. And So This Is Christmas,by John Lennon. The 30th anniversary of his shooting has created retrospect in the media, on television, and a lot of downloads on iTunes. I remember sitting in senior physics the next morning after his death discussing those events with my high school friends. These are the same friends who I do not see nor communicate with nearly enough. Time has a way of doing that; just like it has taken a controversial song with an anti-war theme and made it a Christmas standard.
- “Another year over and a new one just begun” – In the process of thinking about how to get everything wrapped, prepared and completed on time, slow down a bit and reflect on what the season truly means.
- “I hope you have fun.” – This time of year is always exciting, especially for children. At our Christmas gatherings we laugh, and then laugh some more; we all need that.
- “The near and dear ones” – I appreciate my family, I hope you appreciate your family.
- “The old and the young” – My grandmother has recovered from a broken hip this year and I am thankful my girls continue to share wonderful times with her.
- “Happy New Year, let’s hope it’s a good one” – I look forward to exciting opportunities that lie ahead; I encourage our staff and students to give of ourselves and share our talents.
- “For weak and for strong, for rich and poor ones, the road is so long” – I want our staff to model and our students to learn that we all fail at times but fail quickly; jump back up and keep going.
- “And so happy Christmas” – I am thankful to be working with dedicated professionals who are truly devoted to the success of our students.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May you enjoy family and friends during this special time.
