Principal's Message

Greetings:
Welcome back to Waynesville Elementary School. We are anticipating an enrollment on 650 students. Welcome to Waynesville Elementary School! I am so excited to begin another school year and to have the opportunity and privilege of working with you, your child(ren), and our amazing staff! I am beginning my 15th year at Waynesville Elementary, 20th year as Principal, and 38th year in education. Over the summer we have sealed and lined our driveways, upgraded electricity, installed phones for each teacher, and purchased new desktop computers for our entire elementary staff!
With the Ohio Department of Education 2010 Report Card data, our district and building ranking is EXCELLENT for the SEVENTH STRAIGHT YEAR!! Our elementary building met 8 out of 8 indicators and had a performance index of 102.6! That is incredibly awesome! Congratulations to our entire staff for their collaborative efforts, high expectations, and ongoing interventions. I want to thank all of our parents, volunteers, and students for working so hard to meet our building goals. We want to continue this wonderful tradition of achieving academic excellence throughout this school year. I am very proud to be a part of such an outstanding school system!
Please keep in touch with your child's teacher through assignment books/folders, notes, phone calls, and volunteering. I want to continue to foster this partnership to ensure the continued success of our students. Get involved with our PTO and help out with at least one project. Communication is a vital key and always brings understanding. Please refer to our website and monthly newsletters for updated information (www.wayne-local.com). Your child's learning experiences at Waynesville Elementary School are greatly impacted by your support, enthusiasm, and involvement. Please feel free to contact me at any time. I am looking forward to another AMAZING school year replete with student successes, high achievement, and parent involvement!
We will continue to focus upon our 4 overarching building principles: Be a Spartan Problem Solver. Be Ready. Be Responsible. Be Respectful. Be Safe. We have been rolling out the OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program, and we are seeing fewer incidences of bullying, name-calling, and/or exclusion.
As part of our Parent Handbook, I am including the following and want to encourage each one of you to begin sharing these principles with your children throughout the school year.
SCHOOL BEGINS AT HOME -Miss Hartman's TOP TEN
We want every child to experience success at school, and you can help your child do so by getting your child's day off to a good start. You can make sure your child starts each day on a positive note by cooperating with and supporting our efforts in the following ways:
1. Good nutrition maximizes your child's day at school. Please provide your child with a nourishing breakfast and lunch.
2. Send your child to school ON TIME, not late or too early
3. Teach your child to respect and obey all school adults. All teachers and other adults (including secretaries, custodians, aides, and cooks) have authority and are responsible for the safety of children and general building order.
4. Talk with your child about treating other children in the same manner as they wish to be treated (avoid name calling, arguing, fighting, etc).
5. Tell your child to go directly to and from school using the same route/routine every day.
6. Send your child to school properly washed and dressed, using the dress code and weather conditions as guides.
7. Discuss with your child all the information in this handbook so that your child clearly understands what is expected from them at school.
8. Parent interest in the completion of daily homework is essential for student academic growth and success.
9. Become actively involved in school by participating in our PTO or volunteering in the classroom.
10. Above all else, constantly affirm your child-praise them for good efforts and behavior at school, and we will do the same!
