WAYNESVILLE CONCERT BAND EARNS SUPERIOR RATING AT CONTEST
On Friday, March 11, 2011, the Waynesville Concert Band attended the OMEA District 13 Large Group Adjudicated Event at Madison High School. They performed Columbian March, Andromeda, and Simple Gifts: Four Shaker Songs in front of three judges and a crowd of supportive relatives and friends. The band was then ushered to the sight-reading room where they were given a total of eight minutes to look at a piece of music they had never seen before being required to play it in front of a fourth judge, concentrating on making as few errors as possible. When the scores were tabulated, the band earned a combined rating of I (Superior), with a I, I, and II from the stage judges, and a I in sight-reading. This is the strongest showing the Concert Band has had in many years! The Superior rating allows the group to perform again at the State level – the Southwest Region’s event will be held on April 29-30, 2011 at Lakota Freshman School. This is only the fourth time in the past twelve years that the Waynesville Concert Band has been able to perform at State! Thanks to everyone who made the trip to Middletown to support our Superior musicians!

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL JR PARENTS
It’s time to start thinking about the 2011 After-Prom, which will immediately follow Prom on April 30, 2011. It’s up to us parents to ensure that our kids have a fun, safe & memorable night. We will provide inflatables, a variety of games, lots of food & drinks, & prizes will be given out all night long. Last year we had a great turnout with almost 180 kids in attendance. In order to make this another successful After-Prom, we need as many volunteers as possible. I also need a Jr. parent to take over my position as President of the committee. I will guide you through everything as well as the other returning Sr. parents.
Please call, text or email me your name, child’s name & contact # if you are willing to be a part of this special night.

3RD GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL WIN!!
The Waynesville 3rd grade boys won in dramatic fashion over Miamisburg in the Dayton Metro League Tournament over the weekend. Miamisburg beat the Waynesville boys in the top bracket sending them to the bottom bracket. They met up again later in the tournament for the championship game. Miamisburg had not lost yet so Waynesville had to beat them 2 games to be the champions. The first game Waynesville was in control the whole way and won. The second game was a battle the whole way, coming down to the wire. Waynesville played their hearts out and won by one point with David Muth scoring with less than 30 seconds left then Miamisburg drove the ball down the court and missed the shot. Hunter Fillmore got the rebound and controlled the ball to run the clock out.
WLS resident senior citizens (age 62 and over) are eligible for a free pass for all home sports events - Senior citizens who live in the Wayne Local School District can contact Helen at the central office for the passes. 897-6971

Warren County Combined Health Dist. Newsletter – Mar. 2011
USE CAUTION WHEN SPRING CLEANING
Spring is on the way and everyone is ready to “spring clean”. The Environmental Division of the Health Department advises consumers that common household agents can cause fatal injuries when mixed incorrectly. One dangerous combination is ammonia and bleach. When these two compounds are mixed a chemical reaction occurs between the bleach (5.25% sodium hypochlorite) and ammonia (ammonium hydroxide) resulting in the release of nitrogen trichloride gas. This poisonous gas can cause almost instant corrosive oxidation of the mucous membranes, as in the eyes and lungs. Always use household chemical products as directed by the manufacturer and do not mix products as the result can be hazardous to your health. If you have any questions, contact the Environmental Division at 513 695-1220, 513 261-1220, 513 925-1220 or 937 425-1220.

Dear Waynesville Residents:
The message below is a formal announcement in regards to a vacancy on Waynesville Village Council, which was left as a result of the resignation of Jim Martin last month. Mr. Martin was concerned that his increasing professional workload would likely prevent him from continuing to effectively serve on Council. Mr. Martin has served on Council for the past four (plus) years and he has played a strong role in planning for the future of the Village as a Council Member and as a member of both the Public Works Committee and the Police Committee.
If you have been a resident for at the least one year and you are interested in being considered for appointment to this vacant Council seat, then please go to: http://www.waynesville-ohio.org/2008%20Files/08%20Documents/Application%20for%20Appointment%20to%20Board%20and%20Commissions.pdf for a Boards & Committees Application. Applications must be submitted to the Clerk of Council by March 21, 2011 at 4:30 PM. Council anticipates reviewing the applications once the deadline has passed, then making an appointment at the Council Meeting to be held on the first Monday of April.
