CONGRATULATIONS, CAST AND CREW!

W.H.S. Drama has said goodbye to another fall play, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.   Congratulations to the cast and crew on an outstanding performance!  If you missed the show, or just want to relive the thrills and chills, visit the W.H.S. Drama website to check out photos from the production!

THANKS TO OUR AUDIENCE FOR ANOTHER RECORD-BREAKER!

For the third year in a row, W.H.S. Drama has welcomed a record-breaking crowd to the fall play!  This year's Opening Night numbers are especially memorable because they blasted away last year's record for Faith County by over 40%!  Ticket trend data since numbers started to really take off in 2008 has also shown a 25% increase in audience size for each production!  We broke the 1,000 ticket ceiling in 2009-2010, and so far 2010-2011 looks even more promising!

Despite not having school on Friday, November 12, we are certain that word-of-mouth buzz about Don't Be Afraid of the Dark helped our audience to grow.  THANK YOU not only for continuing to support W.H.S. Drama, but also for telling everyone you know about the exciting things happening on our stage!

A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR OUR SPONSORS!

While having strong ticket sales is a major factor in our ability to continue to produce successful shows year after year, W.H.S. Drama would not survive without the generous support of sponsors in the Waynesville community.

The next time you visit these businesses and organizations or see these individuals, please take a moment to thank them for their sponsorship of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR ZOMBIE PROM!

W.H.S. Drama will present the Off-Broadway musical riot Zombie Prom May 5-7 2011.  Cast auditions and crew interviews will be held in January.  Sponsorships and tickets will be available starting in February.  Stay tuned to the W.H.S. Drama website for more information, including a "wish list" of items we're searching for to use in the show!

ADOPT-A-GRANDPARENT FOR CHRISTMAS!

Becky Wical, a 2006 WHS graduate, college student, and Mary Kay Consultant is seeking Waynesville School support in carrying out her Christmas Wish.  Her goal is to provide Mary Kay Satin Hand Cream and Mint Bliss Energizing Lotion for Feet and Legs to all patients at Quaker Heights.

These gift-wrapped products would be presented to residents for their Christmas holiday; for some this may be the only gift they will receive.

Waynesville High School Student Council will be encouraging homeroom students to help support this effort with the Adopt a Grandparent drive.  Money collected in each homeroom will be dedicated to providing these gift packages (which cost $20 each) for as many residents at Quaker Heights as possible so we welcome community support. Additionally, Becky will match 10% of what is raised and donate it back to the Student Council Scholarship Program.

If any community residents are interested in helping to make the holiday brighter for a Quaker Heights resident, donations will be accepted at the high school through Monday, November 22.  You can identify who you would like your gift pack to be delivered to.  You can mail or drop off your donation to Audrey Lueth at Waynesville High School.  Checks should be made payable to Waynesville High School Student Council.  Thank You!

Thawing That Turkey Safely
Immediately after purchasing, take that frozen turkey home and store it in the freezer.  When it comes time to begin thawing that turkey for your holiday dinner, it should not be thawed on the back porch, in the car trunk, in the basement, or on the kitchen counter.  A frozen turkey is safe indefinitely while frozen, but as soon as it begins to defrost any bacteria that may have been present when the turkey was frozen can begin to grow again.  Improper thawing results in the center of the turkey still being frozen while the outside of the turkey reaches temperatures that are dangerous because of the bacterial growth that can occur.  There are three safe ways to thaw that frozen turkey:

In the refrigerator.  When thawing a turkey in the fridge you will need to plan ahead.  For every 5 lbs of turkey, allow 24 hours of thawing time in a refrigerator at 41 degrees F.  Following are examples of safe thawing times:

8-12lbs – 1-2 days
12-16 lbs – 2-3 days
16-20 lbs – 3-4 days
20-24 lbs – 4-5 days

In the Microwave.  Follow the manufacturer's recommendation for thawing in the microwave and plan on cooking the turkey immediately after thawing in this manner

Thawing in Cold Water.  Allow about 30 minutes per pound when thawing a turkey in cold water.  Keep the turkey in its leak proof packaging and submerge the turkey in cold water.  Change the water every 30 minutes until the turkey is thawed.  Typical thawing times using this method would be:

8-12 lbs – 4-6 hrs
12-16 lbs – 6-8 hrs
16-20 lbs – 8-10 hrs
20-24 lbs – 10-12 hrs
Have a safe and healthy holiday dinner.

WCESC PARENT SURVEY
The Warren County Educational Service Center is participating in a federal grant from the Department of Education called The Integration of Schools and Mental Health Services. The goals of this grant include assessing mental health service needs for students in Warren County, and finding ways to address those needs. The grant team really wants to hear from Waynesville parents to see what kind of experiences you have had with mental health services for your children. Please take a few minutes to complete a brief parent survey that can be accessed by clicking on this link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YQ6RTJD  . The results of this survey will help identify gaps in mental health services for students, and to identify mental health topics parents are interested in. Thank you for your time!

TRADITIONAL MUSIC HIGHLIGHTS MUSEUM'S HOLIDAY CELEBRATION

WAYNESVILLE SEEKING ENTERTAINMENT FOR CHRISTMAS IN THE VILLAGE

It is hard to believe that the Holidays are fast approaching, and for Waynesville, Ohio, that means "Christmas in the Village" preparations are in full swing. Christmas in the Village is a community event sponsored by the Waynesville Area Chamber of Commerce. The event recreates an old fashioned Christmas experience complete with carolers, luminaries, and horse drawn carriage rides. The Chamber is seeking entertainment groups who would like to share their musical talents during this Holiday Season. This year there will be a large heated, lighted tent with a stage to accommodate larger groups who could not perform previously. The Chamber is looking for entertainment inside the tent on the stage as well as strolling carolers or entertainers to perform inside some shops.

Christmas in the Village entertainment will be scheduled Friday Dec 3rd from 6-9 PM, Saturday Dec 4th from noon till 9 PM and Sunday Dec. 5th from noon- 6 PM. Anyone interested in performing is asked to please call Patty Tucker (513-897-1122 or 513-290-8024), Carol Vacca (513-897-3885 or 513-267-4337) or Pam Bowman (513-897-2333).

Christmas in the Village is a great opportunity for church small groups or Sunday school classes to come spend a half hour or an hour caroling and then enjoy spending some fellowship time in Waynesville! Caroling groups need not be professional performers. Please contact us if your group would like to experience old fashioned caroling!
