Michael DiMascio wins BIG at
the District,  State, and National Science Fairs 2009

 

District
 Michael DiMascio was recognized again this year at the district,
state, and national level for his science fair project.  At the University of Cincinnati’
Science and Engineering Expo (district science fair) Michael won a $5000
scholarship from the College
of Applied Science for
his project.  In addition he won the Duke Energy Young Scientist Award and
a $100 cash award and the Physics Department, McMicken College
of Arts & Sciences $1000 scholarship.

 

State

At the State Science Day held
in Columbus Michael received the SPIE Optics and Photonics Award for best
project in optics or photonics where students apply optics or photonics related
technology, technologies or principles which came with a  1st Place $500
cash award.  He also won the Case Engineering and Applied Science
Scholarship for outstanding performance at State Science Day for $5,000 tuition
renewable for up to four years. In addition he won the Capital University State
Science Day Scholarship for outstanding performance in State Science Day:
$2,000 tuition, renewable for three additional years. And finally Michael won
the Ohio State University Engineering Scholarship for best project that shows
how a material (metal, ceramic, composite, etc) affects an engineering design:
$1,000 scholarship for the Materials Science and Engineering Program at OSU.

 

 National

Intel International Science
and Engineering Fair (ISEF) was held in Reno,
NV May 2009. Michael’s science
fair efforts were honored by the American Association of Physics Teachers and
the American Physical Society with a one-year AAPT and APS student membership,
a certificate from both AAPT and APS and a subscription to either AAPT
"The Physics Teacher" Journal or other APS journals. Michael placed
Second in the nation for his project and received the Award in Physics and
Astronomy for $1,500.

 

This summer Michael will
intern at WPAFB.  He applied for the internship with 300 other applicants
and Michael was identified as the top applicant for the position! Congrats
Michael!
