Principal's Message
Principal’s Message – September 1, 2010
What a great first six days of school we have had! Students are back in the swing of learning and teachers are working hard on those skills necessary to take our student to new heights. The middle school continues to perform at a high level with the staff and students achieving a 105.5 performance index for the 2009-10 school year (WMS had an index of 105.3 in 2008-09). This year we will continue to look at the data we have and use it to determine ways to improve our delivery of instruction to all students.
With the beginning of September, we are ready for a whole new list of activities – please read more below:
Labor Day is Monday, September 6th and there is no school to celebrate the holiday.
Fall Sports begin this month with the football teams playing at home on September 8th, 15th and 29th. Our volleyball teams play at home on September 14th, 23rd, 27th and 30th. All games begin with the 7th grade contest at 5:00 p.m. and the 8th grade games follow shortly after the conclusion of the 7th grade.
The Wayne Local Schools Board of Education will have its regular monthly meeting on Monday, September 13th beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Spartan Room. All community members are invited and welcome to attend.
The week of September 13th we will be celebrating the signing of the United States Constitution (Constitution Day is Friday, September 17th). We are planning some fun activities to help students better understand this very important document and how our government works.
First quarter mid-term reports will be coming home on Friday, September 24th. Please remember to check Progress Book regularly to stay in touch with your child’s grades and help him/her manage the details to promote academic success.
On Wednesday, September 29th there will be a one hour late arrival to school for students. We will be holding staff development meetings with teachers that morning.
Our first Parent-Teacher Conference night is scheduled for September 30th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. We will be targeting students who are having some difficulties so far in the year, but you may call the office and schedule a time to meet with teachers regardless of your child’s progress. Our next conference day will be Thursday, November 4th.
Don’t forget you may use EZ pay to pay for your child’s lunches and also pay school fees for the 2010-11 school year. If you have not used the EZ pay system yet you may go to www.spsezpaywaynelocal.com to put money on your child’s account or pay school fees. If you have any questions about EZ pay, please call 897-6971. Thank you!
Thank you for the opportunity to serve your child at WMS. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give our school a call at 897-4706.
