Principal's Message

Principal’s Message – March 1, 2010

Are you glad to say good-bye to February and hello to March?  In the middle school we are all hoping for warmer days, and more consistency without weather related interruptions to learning.  But all in all our students did a good job of rolling with things in February and our staff continues to work toward our OAA (Ohio Achievement Assessments) season at the end of April.  We have four weeks until the end of the third grading period and the beginning of Spring Break.  Here are the highlights of what is going on at WMS for March:

Book Club will meet on Wednesday, March 3rd in the middle school library.  The meeting will begin at 2:45 p.m.

Track practice begins for all 7th and 8th grade boys and girls on Monday, March 8th right after school.  All athletes must have a current physical and emergency medical form on file in order to participate.  If athletes have already participated in a sport at WMS this year, there is a very good chance all of this paperwork is current.  If you have questions, please contact one of our middle school coaches – Mr. Chip King, Mrs. Meghan Philpot, and Mr. Scott Stiles.  Thank you!

Since our Valentine’s Day dance was cancelled due to the weather and conflicts with the boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments, we will be holding a St. Patrick’s Day Dance on Wednesday, March 17th from 2:45 until 4:30 p.m.   Cost will be $3.00 for students and their will be a concession stand open during the dance.  Students will be expected to stay at school and go from 7th bell directly to the dance.  Students who return home will not be permitted to come back to the dance without an accompanying parent.  Middle school dances are open to all WMS students, but not visiting friends or relatives.  Thank you!

The middle school Band and Choir programs will present a spring concert on Thursday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gym.  Come out and be treated to a great evening of music!

The third quarter ends on Friday, March 26th.  Spring Break begins at the close of school on Friday the 26th.  Just a reminder that Monday, April 5th school is in session at the regular time – this is a make-up day for us since we used six calamity days during the winter.

The  Ohio Achievement Assessments (OAA) will be given the week of April 26th.  We realize this is a long way off, but we would like everyone to avoid scheduling doctor appointments during this week (particularly in the mornings) so we can have 100% attendance for these important state tests.  Thank you!

If you have any questions about any of the information posted here or on our web-page, please give the school a call at 897-4706.  Go Spartans!
