PROJECT EXCELLENCE TEACHERS CHOSEN
On Tuesday, April 13, Supt. Pat Dubbs presented Third Grade teacher, Heidi Berardinis, and MS Language Arts teacher, Meghan Philpot, with flowers and a balloon to recognize them as the 2010 "Project Excellence" award winners at Wayne Local Schools.
Excellent Educator Winner: Mrs. Heidi Berardinis is completing 17 years of successful experience at Waynesville Elementary. Especially noteworthy is her success as an inclusion teacher working with special needs students. Heidi currently serves on the building Literacy Team and has contributed to the overall improvement of literacy instruction in our building through professional development at the SERRC and Lakota Literacy View. Many years before we adopted the OLWEUS anti-bullying program, Heidi was conducting class meetings to develop a positive classroom community in helping students learn how to share their concerns openly and solve problems creatively. She has also been our district's Lead Mentor and throughout the years contributed to the successful careers of many student teachers and teacher observers in her classroom. Heidi will join educators from across Warren County at a special banquet to honor their lives and successes. Congratulations, Heidi!
Innovative Teacher Winner: Mrs. Meghan Philpot is in her ninth year of teaching middle school language arts in Waynesville. She is one of the many teachers in our community that graduated from Waynesville High School and wanted to give back to the village by coming back to teach. Her current assignment has Mrs. Philpot teaching language arts to eighth graders, although she has taught sixth and seventh grade as well. Mrs. Philpot has a great passion for literature and reading! She is constantly recommending books to her students, taking them to the library for book talks, and asking them what they are reading to build that love of books that she hopes will never die. In addition Mrs. Philpot has taken a real interest in developing the language arts connections with the high school and elementary school and has worked well with teachers in both buildings to create an even better curricular model for our students. We are proud to have Mrs. Philpot as a part of our school and know you will join with us on congratulating her on the Project Excellence award. Great job Mrs. Philpot!
