Summer Assignments AP Studio Art Class
Summer Assignments AP Studio Art Class
Mrs. Leanne Foley
AP Studio Art : Drawing, 2D Design, 3D Design
Waynesville High School
Summer is a great time for exploring new ideas, media and art forms. Summer invites you to play and discover the artist within you. The following summer assignments are designed to keep you visually aware and artistically responsive for the next 10 weeks.
You will need an artist journal. The pages should be blank as you will be sketching, pasting, and using them for art. This artist journal will be collected on Friday of the first week back to school for 200 points.
Assignment #1: Make art! Choose your media, choose your style. Fill 25 pages over the course of the summer. Suggestion: Use an art book from the high school art library (selection of artists or artwork) as a starting point for a visual response. Title + date each page. Place one response on each page. Keep the backs of the journal pages blank. You may use words or enhance your work with words. Keep your artist journal out so you will be reminded to use it. Make art making a habit.
( 4 points / page = 100 points)
Assignment #2: Check out the AP Studio Art College Board website:
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_studioart.html
This site contains ALL AP Studio Art information plus past art works from students to clarify the requirements and rigors of the College Board's Studio art program. There are 3 studio art portfolio options: Drawing, 2-D Design, and 3-D Design. You will be asked to select one of these areas as your 2010 -2011 focus. Read about each portfolio. Select one of the portfolios and go to the "breadth" section to view samples of student's art from years past. Go to the "Concentration" section to view samples of student art from years past. Pay particular attention to the concentration statements and the quality of the art on display. It is recommended that you download and print the portfolio course description of the portfolio you plan to complete during the coming year.
Assignment #3: Collect 100 photos from any visual source. Cut and paste the pictures into your artist journal. DO NOT DRAW THESE PICTURES!!!!! Choose objects, colors, textures which are visually interesting. Do not be concerned about editing or using them at this point....just find them! You may use your own photos, pictures from magazines, the newspaper, brochures, etc. Photos may be pasted more than one per page.
