Blood Drive Results
Did you know that nearly 40% of all blood donations that are collected come from high school drives such as ours? Waynesville is PROUD of our student and staff donors, as well as the High School Student Council who help organize and run the drive, for yet another successful Blood Drive!
Overall, we had 27 successful donations, including 9 first-time donors. WOW! As a result, the total of blood donations can positively impact over 81 lives!!! Students who donate 3 or more times prior to graduation will be recognized at the graduation ceremony by wearing a red cord on their graduation gown.
The Community Blood Center does perform a COVID-19 antibody test on all blood collected. Donors should wait a few days and then log onto your donor account to see the results of your antibody test. donortime.com Note: Upcoming Waynesville area local drives will be held on June 26 and August 21.
Also, for each time a student has donated blood, it counts as one community service hour!

NEW INFORMATION:
Community Blood Center is excited to announce that all blood donors will be tested for the antibodies to COVID-19. Having a positive antibody test may indicate that you have had or been exposed to the COVID-19 virus. A positive COVID-19 antibody test does not mean that you currently are infected with COVID-19, only that you have recovered or been exposed at some point in time.
- COVID-19 antibody testing is being performed on all blood donations as part of our standard testing panel. We are providing this service as we continue to fight the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, with the help of you, our donors.
- ALL SUCCESSFUL BLOOD DONATIONS WILL BE TESTED FOR COVID-19 ANTIBODY. If you do not want to be tested for COVID-19 antibody for any reason, we will not be able to accept your blood donation today. If you choose not to be tested, we look forward to having you donate again when we are no longer performing the COVID-19 antibody testing. Please check back with us in a few months to see if we are still testing. If you change your mind about being tested, we would be glad to accept your blood donation.
- There are rare occasions where testing may not be completed, even though a donation was successful.
- Tests for COVID-19 antibody are not FDA approved or cleared but are available under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) because there are no FDA approved alternatives. More information is available on the FDA website at:
- State, local and public health agencies are notified of results as required by law.
- People who have developed COVID-19 antibody can help seriously ill hospitalized patients overcome COVID-19 infection by donating convalescent plasma. Plasma containing COVID-19 antibody is being used to treat these seriously ill patients. If you test positive for the antibody, you will receive written notification of your results from Community Blood Center. The letter will include information about convalescent plasma donation. You may also receive a phone call from Community Blood Center to talk about donating convalescent plasma.
- Donors with positive antibody results will be notified by mail as soon as testing is final. CBC should receive your final test result within 4-5 weeks from the date of your donation.
- Donors who test negative will be able to view their COVID-19 antibody results in their donor account at www.donortime.com within 4-5 weeks of donation.
Donor Education
- COVID -19 Antibody Testing Alert, is displayed at registration, where donors can see it prior to registration.
- Information for Donors, as part of the Essential Information Packet.
- Answer any questions donor may have about testing and results
- It will take up to 4 weeks to obtain final results
- Donors with positive COVID-19 antibody tests will be notified by mail
- Donors with negative COVID-19 antibody tests can view their results by accessing their account on Donortime.com.
- Convalescent plasma donors will be notified by mail if their testing shows they are no longer eligible to donate convalescent plasma.
- Positive results will be reported to the appropriate county board of health.
- COVID-19 antibody test results have no impact on donor eligibility, unless the donor is a convalescent plasma donor.
