State-Bound Spartan Marching Band

Posted:  November 4, 2021

The Waynesville High School Spartan Marching Band set a goal at the beginning of their season to qualify for State, and have worked hard for the past four months pursuing that goal.

At our first competition in September at Hamilton High School, the band earned Third Place in Class B, and earned an Excellent rating (II).  Our second competition was at Northwestern High School, against several very good programs, and the band earned another Excellent rating, 2nd Place in Class B, and Best Auxiliary in Class B.

After a brief hiatus for the Sauerkraut Festival, the band was back in action at Tecumseh High School, to compete at their third local contest, and performed a fantastic show, earning a Superior (I) rating and qualifying to perform at the OMEA Marching Band State Finals!  In addition to the Superior rating, the band came home with Best Auxiliary and 2nd Place in Class B, and Best General Effect in Classes B & C!  This is the fourth time in recent years that the Marching Band has earned the top rating to advance, and since we did not have a competitive season in 2020, we are headed to State two years in a row!
Our final local event was last week at Turpin High School, and the band once again qualified for OMEA State with a Superior rating.  This is the first time that the band has earned qualifying scores at more than one local event!

The band’s performance time for State Finals is on Sunday, November 7th at 7:15pm, at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.  We hope to see a large crowd to support our fine musicians and color guard members one last time this season!
