Subject: Important Update Regarding School Safety- No Threat Received at Wayne Local Schools

Dear Wayne Local School Parents,

I hope this letter finds each of you well! I wanted to bring to your attention a matter of utmost importance regarding the safety and security of our students and staff at Wayne Local Schools.

Yesterday, December 10, several school districts in the area received a mass email from an alleged Russian Terrorist Organization, threatening violence to the school buildings in Ohio. I want to reassure you that Wayne Local Schools did not receive this message. The safety of our students is always a top priority, and we are committed to keeping you informed about the potential threats to their well-being.

Our Resource Officer, Shannon Mermann, has been in contact with Chief Copeland and the Waynesville Police Department. The police department, while considering the threats a likely hoax, will be collaborating with the County Sheriff’s Department and other area Police Departments to address any concerns and ensure the safety of our school community.

As part of our commitment to transparency and communication, I wanted to provide you with an update on the situation:

  • Wayne Local Schools did not receive the computer-generated Russian threat email.
  • In Warren County, the following school districts did receive the email yesterday: Springboro, Little Miami, Lebanon, Monroe, Kings and Carlisle.
  • In Warren County, Franklin, Mason, Warren County Career Center and Wayne Local have not received the email.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to the building offices or my office. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation in prioritizing the safety of our students and staff of Wayne Local Schools.

Sincerely,

Sam Ison
Superintendent
