The Spartans hosted the 1st Annual Spartan Tip-Off Classic.  On Friday the Spartans defeated Talawanda by the score of 42-33.  Despite shooting woes (9-16 from FT Line, 1-11 from 3pt) the Spartans were able to hold on for Victory with good team defense and rebounding.  John Cole lead a balanced scoring attack with 9 points.  Anthony Carmichael, Ryan Papanek and Alex Hurley each added 8 points.  Carmichael added 13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.  Hurley had a career high 4 assists, Luke Kindred added 3 assists.

On Saturday the Spartans defeated the Oakwood Lumberjacks in the Championship Game of the Classic by the score of 56-48.  The Spartans struggled to hit outside shots early in the game against a good Oakwood’s half court zone defense and were down 28-23 at halftime.  The Spartans came out in the second half and were able to attack the Oakwood zone from the inside out and took control of the tempo of the game.  The Spartan responded from a poor shooting night the day before to make clutch Free Throws in the 4th quarter (18-24 from FT Line).  The Spartans had three players in double figures with John Cole leading the way with 15, Alex Hurley 12 and Anthony Carmichael 11.  Cole recorded his first career double by adding 10 rebounds.  The Spartans had great defensive efforts from Ryan Papanek and Mac Greeley, slowing down Oakwood’s dynamic point guard who was unable to get into a rhythm offensively.

The JV Spartans moved onto the tip-Off championship against an aggressive West Carrollton team Saturday night. Total team defensive effort got the Spartans back into the game late and forced overtime. Overtime was back and forth but the Spartans fell short by 3. JV Spartans are looking for a bounce back game entering league play Friday against Madison

Waynesville Freshman team fell short against the visiting Talawanda Braves Saturday night, by a score of 42-31.
