SPORTS NEWS Athletic Schedules:   www.wayne-local.com under Athletics   All records and stats can be found at the SWBL website   swblsports.com 2016 GIRLS TENNIS The girls tennis team has been on the courts since June 1 working hard for their season opener Monday August 22 at Clinton-Massie. We are glad to announce that our team now has ten members with four returning from last year. This is a young team with only one senior. This year’s team members are: Captain Taylor Quinn- Senior and 1st year Morgan Achard-Junior and 2nd year Roslyn Papetti- Junior and 2nd year Natalie Wygandt- Junior and 2nd year Carly Connor- Sophomore and 2nd year Katelyn Abney-Freshman and 1st year Crystal Green-Freshman and 1st year Hannah Selk- Freshman and 1st year Anna Perry-Freshman and 1st year.   I am look forward to see what this team can do. I invite all tennis fans to come and watch.    This next week’s schedule is: Monday, Aug 22nd Clinton-Massie Tuesday, Aug 23rd at Carlisle Thursday, Aug 25th home with Dixie   GOLF The 2016 boys golf team consists of Dagan Stiles, Cameron Adams, Jackson Beachler, Hunter Clements, Ryan Fowler, Cooper Fravel, Drake Stiles, Joey Cockerham, Bryce Daniel, and Joe Hobbs.  This is a young and inexperienced group of young men who are learning and improving each day.  The season has been off to a fast start.  The Varsity team placed 4th in the Buckeye Division at the SWBL Ryder Cup and 9th at the Ridge Classic.  The Varsity team has been led by Drake Stiles (45.25 average) in their four dual matches against Dixie, Brookville, Milton Union, and Little Miami, but the Spartans are still waiting on their first win.  The JV team led by Bryce Daniel was victorious over Little Miami JV at Majestic Springs Thursday evening.  The team will compete against Valley View and Monroe next Tuesday and Thursday.   VOLLEYBALL The high school volleyball teams have been working hard and begin their season tomorrow (Saturday) with a home tri-match with Franklin and Southeastern. Play begins at 10:00, with Varsity in the high school gym and JV in the middle school gym.    WAYNESVILLE SPARTANS stadium blanket fundraiser to support Lady Spartans Volleyball, we have some extra blankets for sale, $20 each.
