About the Hope Squad
HIGH SCHOOL HOPE SQUAD PRESENTATION (Peer Suicide Prevention Program) -
JANUARY 24th
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among U.S. teenagers ages 10-24.
On January 24th all high school students will attend a presentation introducing our High School Hope Squad Student Members. Hope Squad members help their peers who struggle with thoughts of suicide by beginning the conversation and asking the hard question. In the presentation students will learn what Hope Squad is all about and why each member wants to be a part of Hope Squad (Suicide Peer Prevention Program). Hope Squad Advisors will open the presentation with introductions and then staff and students will participate in a game involving facts about teen suicide.
Finally, activities for HOPE WEEK (Jan 27-31) will be announced.
HOPE WEEK Jan 27-31: Monday - Signs of Suicide and Prevention Resources. During lunch all students will be given a “safe” tag to attach to their book bag or note book. The reverse side of the Safe Tag has the 24 hour Warren County Crisis Hotline phone number, Crisis Text Line, and the National Suicide Prevention Hotline number.
Tuesday - Positive Sticky Note Day -Anonymous positive messages will be left on lockers and books to promote positive atmosphere! Wednesday - Mindfulness Day- at lunch student will have an opportunity learn ways to regain focus and become more present. Recipes for making sensory soothers at home will also be shared (stress balls, glitter bottles…)will be available as well as Mindfulness cards for calming practice. Thursday- ZEN Coloring. Students will be provided Zentangles and other Mandala coloring sheets to help relax while creating beautiful images. FREE Crayons provided! Friday - Iceberg Activity and display. Students will be asked to identify personal characteristics that are above the water line and others below the water line. This is an anonymous activity. Don’t want your child to participate? If you do not want your child to attend the presentation please email Cathy Joefreda at Cjoefreda@wayne-local.com . Your child will attend a study hall for the duration of the assembly.
MIDDLE SCHOOL HOPE SQUAD PRESENTATION (Peer Suicide Prevention Program) -
February 12th Suicide is the second leading cause of death among
U.S. teenagers ages 10-24. On February 12th, middle school students will attend a presentation introducing our High School Hope Squad Student Members. Hope Squad members help their peers who struggle with thoughts of suicide by beginning the conversation and asking the hard question. In the presentation, middle school students will learn what Hope Squad is all about and why each member wants to be a part of Hope Squad (Suicide Peer Prevention Program). Hope Squad Advisors will open the presentation with introductions and then Middle School staff and students will participate in a game involving facts about teen suicide. The presentation will end with all students being offered a “safe” tag to attach to their book bag or note book. The reverse side of the Safe Tag has the 24 hour Warren County Crisis Hotline phone number, Crisis Text Line, and the National Suicide Prevention Hotline number.
Taking a Safe Tag is optional.
Don’t want your child to participate? Passive permission slips will go home with the middle school students Friday, February 7th. If you do not want your student to attend the presentation the passive permission form must be returned to the office Wednesday February 12th.
