Boys Basketball Update

VARSITY:

The Spartan have split their last two league games, losing to Northridge 73-45 and defeating Milton-Union 59-42.  The Spartans were led in the Northridge game by Ryan Papanek with 12 points.  At Milton-Union Alex Hurley led the way with 17 points, sinking 5 three point shots.  John Cole at 11 points and 5 assists.  Anthony Carmichael recorded a double double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

  The Spartans are currently are 2nd place 11-4 (6-2 SWBL).

All three teams travel to Franklin tonight for a nonleague triple header.  Game times Freshman 4:30, JV 5:45 and Varsity 7:15.

Varsity

The Spartans defeated the Dixie Greyhounds last Friday 86-38.  The Spartans started quickly and never looked back.  It was a great team effort with five players scoring in double figures (Hurley -16, Cole and Carmichael -12, Johnson and Speers 10).  Carmichael added 13 rebounds. http://swblsports.com/bkGameStats.aspx?gameid=313965 - Dixie Box Score The Spartans travelled to "The Pit" on Saturday for a non-league against Oakwood.  The Spartans left victorious  68-57.  The Spartans had three players in double figures (Hurley-20, Carmichael-15, Cole-10).  Carmichael pulled down 12 rebounds.  http://swblsports.com/bkGameStats.aspx?gameid=313681 Oakwood Box Score The Spartans are currently 8-3 and 3-1 in SWBL.  The Spartans host Carlisle tonight 1/11 and travel to Preble Shawnee on Tuesday 1/15.  Both are triple headers 4:30 Freshmen, 5:45 JV, 7:15 Varsity Tip-Offs.  

JV

JV Spartans move to 10-1 on the season with 2 more wins last week. Friday beating Dixie and Saturday beating Oakwood. Friday was an overall team effort with everyone scoring and Saturday night against Oakwood was a tough gritty comeback win.  

Freshman

The Freshman Spartans defeated Dixie 39-34 on Friday and lost to a very good Oakwood team on Saturday night. Freshman are currently 5-3 on the season.

UPDATE:  12/7/2017 HS Boys Basketball Varsity The Spartans hosted the 1st Annual Spartan Tip-Off Classic.  On Friday the Spartans defeated Talawanda by the score of 42-33.  Despite shooting woes (9-16 from FT Line, 1-11 from 3pt) the Spartans were able to hold on for Victory with good team defense and rebounding.  John Cole lead a balanced scoring attack with 9 points.  Anthony Carmichael, Ryan Papanek and Alex Hurley each added 8 points.  Carmichael added 13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.  Hurley had a career high 4 assists, Luke Kindred added 3 assists.  http://swblsports.com/bkGameStats.aspx?gameid=313959 – Complete Box Score On Saturday the Spartans defeated the Oakwood Lumberjacks in the Championship Game of the Classic by the score of 56-48.  The Spartans struggled to hit outside shots early in the game against a good Oakwood’s half court zone defense and were down 28-23 at halftime.  The Spartans came out in the second half and were able to attack the Oakwood zone from the inside out and took control of the tempo of the game.  The Spartan responded from a poor shooting night the day before to make clutch Free Throws in the 4th quarter (18-24 from FT Line).  The Spartans had three players in double figures with John Cole leading the way with 15, Alex Hurley 12 and Anthony Carmichael 11.  Cole recorded his first career double by adding 10 rebounds.  The Spartans had great defensive efforts from Ryan Papanek and Mac Greeley, slowing down Oakwood’s dynamic point guard who was unable to get into a rhythm offensively. http://swblsports.com/bkGameStats.aspx?gameid=313960  - Complete Box Score   JV The Waynesville JV Spartans opened their season up Friday night against Talawanda in the tip-off classic at Waynesville High school. The game started off slow but quickly picked up in the second quarter with the Spartans going up by 10. With the lead play from Luke Zebell the Spartans didn’t look back from their lead and won 48-35. The JV Spartans moved onto the tip-Off championship against an aggressive West Carrollton team Saturday night. Down 14 in the third quarter the Spartans came rallying back from the lead play from Kohl Todd scoring a team high 26 points. Total team defensive effort got the Spartans back into the game late and forced overtime. Overtime was back and forth but the Spartans fell short by 3. JV Spartans are looking for a bounce back game entering league play Friday against Madison Freshman Waynesville Freshman team fell short against the visiting Talawanda Braves Saturday night, by a score of 42-31. It was a one possession game the entire way until about two minutes left to go and Talawanda scored a game sealing 3. Ensuing free throws put the game out of reach. The Freshman boys are back in action Saturday night against Cincinnati Country Day at 4:30.   Upcoming Schedule: Madison away 12/7/18 Twin Valley South home 12/8/18 Preble Shawnee home 12/11/18       JR High Boys Basketball The 7th & 8th Grade Boys basketball team started the season on Tuesday, December 4, with a home game vs. Middletown Madison.  The 7th grade defeated Madison, 35-22, with a balanced scoring effort led by Nick Warren (10 pts), Isaac Squire (6 pts), and Avery Jordan (6 pts).  They outscored Madison in every quarter to lead to a convincing win. The 8th grade lost to Madison, 34-27, after leading Madison at halftime 22-19.  It was one of those games where the shooting went cold in the second half, which caused the defeat.  Kaden Christensen led in scoring with 13 pts, and Blaise Sizer scored 5.
