HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TAKE 5TH PLACE IN THE STATE!!!

Our Waynesville Spartans Cross Country teams both participated in the Ohio State Cross Country Championship Meet this past Saturday in Columbus, Ohio! Our boys team came into the meet ranked 4th in the State of Ohio after capturing both the District and Regional Championships. Our boys ran a fantastic race with every one of our runners passing multiple athletes down the stretch to capture the Division II State Championship Runner-Up Trophy! Colin Amato passed 11 runners over the last mile to finish in 10th place and Kaden Harvey passed several over the last 200 meters to finish in 11th place, with both garnering All-Ohio honors in doing so! Trevor Camp finished in 31st place passing 4 runners in the last mile and Caden Adams had a great finish by overtaking 12 athletes over the last mile and placing 47th! Freshman Jonas King rounded out our top 5 runners placing 54th and again running down several athletes over the last 200 meters! Our 6th place and tie-breaking runner was Denver Johnson. Denver passed 7 runners over the last mile to finish in 88th place! Jackson Berger was our 7th runner placing 93rd overall in the race of the top 168 Division II runners in the State of Ohio! When the race was over, Woodridge had won their third straight title and the Spartans and #1 ranked Unioto Shermans both had 149 points. With our #6 runner Denver Johnson coming in 88th place and Unioto's 6th place runner coming in 92nd place, our Waynesville Spartans Boys team came home with the Division II Ohio State Cross Country Championship Runner-Up trophy! This was an absolutely stellar performance by our outstanding group of top 7 runners on the Waynesville Spartans Boys Cross Country Team!       
   
Our Waynesville Lady Spartans Cross Country Team went into the state meet ranked 5th in the state with a District Championship and Regional Runner-Up Championship behind 2nd ranked Oakwood. Freshman Samantha Erbach ran a personal record and broke the WHS 5K school record with a time of 18:54 to earn All-Ohio honors placing 13th overall! Senior Hope Erbach was our second runner placing 23rd followed by Maria Gill who passed 6 runners down the stretch finished in 32nd place! Kyla Harvey ran 4th for us and had the biggest finish of the day passing 19 runners over the last mile to finish in 36th place! Carissa Tekeste was our 5th runner and almost equaled that feat by passing 18 runners over the last mile to finish in 55th place! Emme Greely was our 6th runner and placed 90th followed by our 7th runner Elizabeth McKeehan who placed 97th in the race of the top 177 Division II runners in the State of Ohio! Our girls made history as the first Lady Spartans Cross Country Team that made it to the State Championship and they kept their 5th place ranking in tact by finishing 5th overall in the State of Ohio!

High School Boys and Girls State Bound Cross Country teams to the State Championship Meet in Columbus

The teams will be boarding a charter bus from school at 9 AM and led by a police escort will take the following route out of town as we head to Columbus:

  • right out of WHS—>down the hill
  • right at LCNB and down Main Street
  • left by Subway/McDonalds.

A huge thank you to our fantastic Waynesville PD and the great Chief Copeland for providing the police escort and to our amazing Wayne Local Schools’ CFO, Mr. Ron James, for providing a luxury bus for our student athletes to enjoy on the way.

WAYNESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL SPARTANS CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS CAPTURE SWBL CHAMPIONSHIPS AND DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS IN BACK-TO-BACK WEEKENDS!

The Waynesville High School Boys Cross Country Team WON the SWBL Championship with a dominant performance-beating long-time rival Milton Union by a score of 16 to 64! Kaden Harvey was the SWBL League Champion for the second year in a row! Kaden was followed by Colin Amato (2nd), Caden Adams (3rd), Jonas King (4th), Trevor Camp (6th), Jackson Berger (8th), and Denver Johnson (10th). All of these runners are 1st Team All-League! 2nd Team All-League Honors go to Carson Shutts (11th), Eli Click (12th), and Levi Morgan (13th) in the race with 111 runners. This is our High School Boys’ 4th straight SWBL title which is a testament to the strength of our senior class!

The Waynesville High School Girls Cross Country Team WON their 10th straight SWBL Championship in a row and 11th in the past 12 years! This is a tradition that our Lady Spartans take seriously and have fought hard to preserve over the years. This year was not even close as the girls earned a perfect score of 15 points (capturing 1st-5th places = a perfect score of 15 points) to beat Milton-Union by 37 points 15-52! Senior superstar Hope Erbach ran a season’s best time of 19:03 to become a 2-Time League Champion! Hope was followed by her freshman sister Samantha Erbach (2nd), Kyla Harvey (3rd), Maria Gill (4th), Emme Greely (5th), Carissa Tekeste (6th), Elizabeth McKeehan (7th), Jordan Patterson (8th), and Alyza Camp (9th). All 9 of these girls are 1st Team All-League! 2nd Team All-League Honors go to Rachel Ingle (11th), Ava Amato (12th), Kate Handle (14th), and Hannah Gill (19th). Honorable Mention All-League Honors go to Megan Zidaroff in 21st place and Lexi Youtsey in 31st place in the combined race of 119 runners.

The High School Boys Open Runners saw another near perfect score with our boys beating Bellbrook by a score of 16 to 56! In fact, if you take the times of the varsity race vs. the open race-our boys open team beats the Milton Union Varsity team 36 to 49! That's dominance! The open race was led by Noah Wooldridge and Stefan Muterspaw. Noah and Stefan both earned Honorable Mention All-League Honors coming in first and second place in this race respectively. Following these two runners were Grant Kazmierski (3rd), Ryan Leopold (4th), Addison Cummins (6th), AJ Seidenschmidt (7th), Ernie Taylor (8th), Joey Phillips (16th), Connor Huffman (26th), Gabe Wooldridge (30th), Isaiah Webb (42nd), Gavin Price (58th), and David Weaver and Cameron Bailey rounding out our Spartans in the race of 82 runners. 

The Waynesville High School Boys Cross Country Team WON the Division II District Championship! Our boys’ team dominated the competition by scoring 24 points to Oakwood's 56 at the Cedarville District Division II Cross Country Invitational last weekend! Kaden Harvey, Colin Amato, and Trevor Camp came in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively followed by Caden Adams in 8th, Jonas King in 10th, Denver Johnson in 12th, and Jackson Berger in 15th in the race of 53 boys.

The Waynesville High School Girls Cross Country Team also WON the Division II District Championship! Our girls’ team also dominated the competition by scoring 27 points against the higher ranked girls’ team from Tippecanoe who scored 59! Freshman Phenom Samantha Erbach led the way with a school record breaking performance placing 2nd in the race with a time of 18:59. Samantha was followed by her Senior sister Hope Erbach in 3rd, Maria Gill in 5th, Kyla Harvey in 6th, Emme Greely in 11th, Carissa Tekeste in 12th, and Elizabeth McKeehan in 17th in the race of 81 girls. 

Next up for our Varsity Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams is the Regional Championship tomorrow in Troy! If our Spartan teams finish in the top 4 in our Region, we will be running in Columbus next week at the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET!!!  LET’S GO SPARTANS!!!

JR HIGH CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS WIN BIG AT THE SWBL CHAMPIONSHIP AND STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEETS!

Our Junior High Boys Cross Country Team was challenged for the league title but came away with a 1 point victory beating Oakwood 54-55 WINNING their third straight SWBL League Championship! Celtan Walton led the boy’s team with a personal record of 11:02 to capture 2nd place! Celtan was followed by Wade Von Handorf in 4th, Evan Mender in 10th, Owen Malcom “the one shoe wonder” in 13th - running the second mile of the race with only one shoe, Cole Ford in 27th, Decker Atkins in 31st, Sam Papanek in 37th, and AJ Larsen in 48th in the race of 108 runners. 

Our Lady Spartans Junior High Cross Country team won 2nd place in the SWBL-behind only a very strong Oakwood team! Olivia Walters was crowned League Champion, winning the race with a fantastic time of 12:28!  Next up was Zedie Click in 15th, Lilly Ford in 19th, Alena Wooldridge in 23rd, Maria Syversen in 25th, and Isabel King in 30th.

Our Junior High Cross Country Teams competed in the Middle School State Championship Meet at Dublin Jerome High School last week.

Our Junior High Boys Team came in 4th Place in the State! We were led by Celtan Walton who won 2nd place overall followed by Wade Von Handorf in 16th, Owen Malcom in 33rd, Evan Mender in 47th, Cole Ford in 57th, Decker Atkins in 65th, AJ Larsen in 68th, and Sam Papanek in 71st in the race of 140 boys.

Our Junior High Girls Cross Country Team came in 3rd Place in the State! Our Lady Spartans were led by Olivia Walters placing 5th followed by Kendal Erbach in 7th, Zedie Click in 22nd, Lilly Ford in 38th, Isabel King in  53rd, Maria Syvertsen in 66th , and Alena Wooldridge in 68th in the race of 136 girls. This completes a spectacular and super successful season for our Junior High Cross Country runners!

Cross Country Rocks Regionals!!!

Today, the high school cross country teams competed in Troy, Ohio. They finished with impressive results as the High School Boys Cross Country Team are Regional Champions!!!... and the High School Girls Cross Country Team are Regional Runner Up!!!

Both teams qualified for the State Championship Meet!!!   The teams will be headed to the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN COLUMBUS NEXT WEEKEND!!!

Cross Country Eaton Meet

Our Waynesville Spartans Cross Country teams had a great showing at the Eaton Invitational this past Saturday with 8 of our freshmen and sophomore boys running in the large school varsity race to start the day! Our Juniors and Seniors took this week off to rest and prepare for tomorrow’s SWBL League Championship Meet!

Noah Wooldridge lead the team with an 18th place finish followed closely by Ryan Leopold in 19th, Addison Cummins in 27th, Gabe Wooldridge in 45th with a new PR, Isaiah Webb in 49th, David Weaver in 56th, and Cameron Bailey rounding out the field in the race of 101 runners. 

Our Junior High boys were next and finished in 2nd place behind Oakwood without one of our top 2 runners in attendance. Celtan Walton finished in 2nd place followed by Owen Malcom in 7th, Evan Mender in 12th, Cole Ford in 18th, Decker Atkins in 22nd, Sam Papanek in 24th, and Aiden Larsen in 25th out of 76 runners.

Our Junior High girls also finished in 2nd place behind Oakwood with Olivia Walters’ 3rd place finish and Kendal Erbach's 4th place finish leading the way. Next for the Lady Spartans was Zedie Click in 15th, Lilly Ford in 22nd, Maria Syvertsen in 24th, Isabel King in 27th, and Alena Wooldridge in 28th.

Tomorrow is the SWBL League Championship Meet at Preble Shawnee! This is where our girls high school team will be going for a 10th straight championship, our boys high school team will be going for 4 in a row, and both our JH teams will be going for a 3rd straight sweep of the SWBL. Our runners have trained so hard for this meet, and we are looking forward to bringing home the gold to Waynesville! GO SPARTANS GO!

SPARTAN CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS SWEEP THE ST. XAVIER INVITATIONAL!

Three team titles, three individual champions, and 18 runners in four different races finishing in the top 10-just another typical winning Saturday for the Waynesville Spartans Cross Country Teams as they absolutely dominated some big time competition at the St. Xavier High School Cross Country Invitational!

Our Varsity boys team won the first place team championship by an astounding 40 point margin! They scored 28 points to Badin's 68 and also beat 2nd ranked DIII team Summit Country Day who scored 71 points. Senior Kaden Harvey lead the Spartans, breaking the 16 minute mark yet again winning first place in the race with a fantastic time of 15:55!  Senior Colin Amato brought home the silver in 2nd place with another fabulous finish for the Spartans!  Following Kaden and Colin was Jonas King in 6th place, Caden Adams in 7th place, Levi Morgan in 12th place, Jackson Berger in 14th place, and Denver Johnson in 16th place to round out our top 7 Spartan runners.  Next up was Carson Shutts in 19th place, Grant Kazmeirski in 22nd place, and Noah Wooldridge in 25th place in the Varsity race of 65 runners. 

In the boys open race, AJ Seidenschmidt won first place in the race with a new personal record time of 18:32!  Senior Stefan Muterspaw had a great race day as he captured 2nd place for the Spartans!  Rounding out our top 7 runners was Ryan Leopold in 4th place, Ernie Taylor in 5th place, Addison Cummins in 7th place, Conner Huffman in 18th place, and Gavin Price in 22nd place.  The boys team won the first place team championship by a whopping 56 points!  The Spartans scored 19 points to Badin's 75.  Next in for the Spartans was Isaiah Webb in 26th place, Gabe Wooldridge in 30th place, and David Weaver in 44th place out of 60 runners.

Our Varsity girls team also won the first place team championship by a huge margin of 44 points, bringing our Waynesville Spartan Cross Country teams to 3/3 for team championship titles at the meet!  Our girls team scored 27 points to Badin’s 71! Senior Hope Erbach lead our Lady Spartans to victory with a fantastic race time of 19:50!  Next up was a huge pack of orange and black with Kyla Harvey finishing in 5th place, Maria Gill in 6th place, Alyza Camp in 7th place, Elizabeth McKeehan in 8th place, Emme Greely in 9th place, and Jordan Patterson in 13th place for our top 7 Lady Spartan runners.  Next up for our Varsity girls was Rachel Ingle with a season's best time of 21:57 in 14th place, followed by Samantha Erbach in her first race back from injury in 15th place, and Ava Amato in 18th place in the race of 58 girls.  

Next up was the Girls Open Race! We only had 4 Lady Spartan runners competing in this race, and our girls gave an impressive finish to cap off our teams’ dominating day!  Kate Handle lead nearly the entire race, and gave it her all to a second place finish! Kate was followed by Megan Zidaroff in 6th place, Hannah Gill in 7th place, and Lexi Youtsey in 17th place out of 31 girls.

This weekend, our Varsity teams will take the weekend off to rest and prepare for our SWBL League meet next Saturday, where the Spartans are expected to win first place team championships in both the boys and girls races!  Our Open and Jr. High teams will compete at Eaton this weekend and we are looking for great results from our student-athletes competing at this meet! LET’S GO SPARTANS!

SPARTANS CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS RUN HARD AT VERSAILLES!

This past weekend, our Waynesville Spartans Cross Country teams had another fantastic race day at the “Tour de Sewer” Versailles XC Invitational! Our High School boys team, currently ranked #3 in OHIO, won the first place team championship!  Kaden Harvey was the race champion as he captured gold finishing in first place!  Kaden also broke an 11 year Versailles course record with a winning race time of 15:58!  Colin Amato won silver in 2nd place with Trevor Camp bringing home the bronze in 3rd place for the Spartans, followed by Jonas King (6th) and Caden Adams (8th) for a team score of 20 points to second place Botkins with 71 points.  Rounding out our top 7 were Levi Morgan (13th) and Denver Johnson (14th). Jackson Berger (15th), Grant Kazmeirski (21st), and Carson Shutts (26th) were our top 10 finishers out of the race of 135 runners.

Our High School girls team, ranked #6 in OHIO, ran without 2 of our top 4 runners due to injury. The team rose to the challenge and ran very well, capturing the runner up trophy in 2nd place!  Lead by Senior Hope Erbach (3rd), and Freshman Kyla Harvey (5th), Emme Greely (14th), Maria Gill (15th) and Elizabeth McKeehan (17th), the girls scored 54 points behind a very strong Ft. Loramie team ranked 4th in the state in Division 3. Alyza Camp (25th) and Jordan Patterson (31st) rounded out our top 7. Ava Amato (34th), Rachel Ingle (35th), Kate Handle (44th) were our top 10 finishers in the race of 123 girls.

Our Junior High boys team was lead by Wade Von Handorf and Celton Walton placing 2nd and 3rd respectively followed by Owen Malcom (13th), Evan Mender (20th), Cole Ford (28th), Decker Atkins (31st) and Sam Papanek (49th) in the race of 103 runners. Our boys were only 5 points behind Botkinsà61 to 66. Our Junior High girls team was lead by Olivia Walters bringing home the silver in 2nd place followed by Zedie Click (15th), Lilly Ford (26th), Isabel King (30th), Alena Wooldridge (32nd) and Maria Syvertsen (34th) in a nice pack. 

This weekend, our High School Boys and Girls teams will travel to St. Xavier in Cincinnati for a big time meet with great competition! We are looking forward to another outstanding performance by our High School Cross Country teams!

HIGH SCHOOL AND JUNIOR HIGH CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS SWEEP THE CENTRAL OHIO CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL!

This past weekend, the Waynesville Spartans Cross Country teams traveled to Columbus and put an absolutely electric performance on display for all of central Ohio to see! Our Spartan runners dominated the field, capturing four first place trophies! The Varsity Boys and Girls team won first place at the meet, followed by the Jr. High boys and girls teams winning first place in their divisions as well! A fast, flat course and perfect weather conditions along with great competition brought out the best in our runners as many personal records were had on the day!

Competing first at the meet was our Varsity boys team. Kaden Harvey lead the Spartans, tying his school record mark of 15:52 and coming in 4th place overall! Colin Amato was close behind, coming in 5th place and also breaking the 16 minute barrier, running a fantastic time of 15:59! Our next 4 runners all had personal records (PR’s) starting with Trevor Camp and Caden Adams who both broke 17 minutes for the first time running 16:46 and 16:59 for a 13th and 18th place finish respectively. Jonas King and Jackson Berger placed 20th and 25th in the race of 142 runners. Also having PR's on the day were Carson Shutts and Grant Kazmeirski both breaking 18 minutes for the first time running 17:57 (51st) and 17:59 (52nd). Noah Wooldridge and Ryan Leopold also had PR's with Noah running 18:02 (53rd) and Ryan 18:56 (76th). The other runners in this race all had season's best runs as well starting with Denver Johnson who ran 7th for our team and place 28th in 17:29, Eli Click in 17:49 (45th), Levi Morgan in 17:51 (46th), and Stefan Muterspaw in 18:35 (65th). Our boys team won the DII-III division and placed only behind Hilliard Davidson overall who is ranked #2 in the state in DI.

 

Competing next were our high school boys in the open race! The Spartans were lead by Addison Cummins who ran a PR time of 18:37 coming in 6th place overall! Next up was AJ Seidenschmidt with a time of 18:44 to capture 8th place and Ernie Taylor with a time of 19:06 to capture 14th place. Joey Phillips had a PR of 20:02 placing 27th along with Gavin Price with a time of 20:54 placing 34th. Conner Huffman and Isaiah Webb both had PR's of 21:04 (36th) for Conner and 21:05 (37th) for Isaiah which is over a minute faster than he has run before! David Weaver had a season's best race followed by Cameron Bailey in the race of 119 runners.  

 

Our Varsity girls team continued the dominant performance by our speedy Spartan runners! Hope Erbach lead the way for the Spartans with a 4th place finish in 19:22 followed by Kyla Harvey with a PR of 19:54 coming in 8th place! Carissa Tekeste was next in 20:27 (13th), followed by Emme Greely and Maria Gill both running PR's and finishing with times of 20:35 (15th) and 20:44 (18th) respectively. Elizabeth McKeehan (23rd) and Alyza Camp (31st) rounded out our top 7 athletes finishing in the race of 94 girls. Also having a PR on the day was Jordan Patterson who ran a 21:13 for 36th place. Having season bests were Ava Amato (39th), Kate Handle (44th), Rachel Ingle (54th), Megan Zidaroff (68th) and Hannah Gill (79th). Our girls team won the DII-III division and placed only behind #1 ranked DI Hilliard Davidson in the overall meet scoring.

Our Jr. High boys team ALL had PR's and were lead by first place race champion Wade Von Handorf with a sizzling time of 11:08 followed closely by Celtan Walton in 11:12 placing 2nd in the race of 111 runners! Next up was Owen Malcom in 12:12 (12th), Cole Ford in 12:40 (15th), Evan Mender in 12:46 (20th), Decker Atkins in 13:04 (27th), Aiden Larsen in 13:16 (30th), and Sam Papanek in 13:19 (31st). The Spartans scored 50 points to Westerville St. Paul Middle School's 65 to win the first place trophy!

Our Jr. High girls were lead by Olivia Walters with another 2nd place finish running a blazing time of 12:29 followed very closely by Kendal Erbach in 12:30 coming in with the bronze at 3rd place! Zedie Click had a personal record by nearly two minutes running a 13:19 to capture 6th place! She was followed by Lilly Ford who also PR'd by over a minute running 14:22 for 16th place! Isabel King made her debut after rehabbing an injury for most of the summer and fall and ran a great time of 14:57 in her inaugural race of the season to place 26th. Alena Wooldridge was next with a 15:14 for 32nd place and Maria Syvertsen also had a PR of over a minute, running 15:17 for 34th place in the race of 101 girls. The Lady Spartans scored 40 points to St. Micheal's 58 to win the first place trophy!

SPARTAN CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS HAVE AN IMPRESSIVE WEEKEND ONCE AGAIN!

Our Varsity Boys and Girls Cross Country teams competed at the Mason Invitational this weekend, and put on another show with a dominating performance!  Our Boys brought home another piece of hardware for the trophy case, as they secured the team championship in 1st place! Kaden Harvey brought home the gold medal, as he won the race in 1st place, scoring an athlete of the week nomination in the Cincinnati Enquirer! Colin Amato ran strong for the Spartans with a 6th place finish and freshman phenom Jonas King came in 8th place to round out our Spartan runners in the top 10! Jonas was followed by Caden Adams (14th), Trevor Camp (16th), Jackson Berger (17th), and Levi Morgan (24th) to round our top 7 in the field of 118 runners.

Our Lady Spartans Varsity team put on an outstanding performance as well!  We were lead by Hope and Samantha Erbach who finished in 5th and 6th place respectively. Samantha was followed by Carissa Tekeste (7th), Kyla Harvey (11th), Elizabeth McKeehan (15th), Maria Gill (16th) and Emme Greely (18th) for our top 7 in the race of 96 runners. Our ladies team finished in second place and brought home the runner-up trophy! 

As our Varsity Cross Country teams were busy collecting trophies at Mason, our boys open team and Junior High boy and girls traveled to compete at the Brookville Invitational. Our Boys Open team competed in the large school Varsity race at Brookville. They finished in 5th place overall and were lead by Stefan Muterspaw who placed 11th, followed closely by Ryan Leopold in 12th, Joey Phillips (19th), Conner Huffman (35th), Gavin Price (36th), Gabe Wooldridge (43rd) and Isaiah Webb (44th) rounding out our top 7 in the 78 man race. Both our boys and girls Junior High teams came in 3rd place overall!  The boys were lead by Wade Von Handorf who captured the silver medal coming in 2nd place! Wade broke the 12 minute mark by running an outstanding time of 11:57! He was followed by Evan Mender (10th), Owen Malcom (11th), Cole Ford (12th), Sam Papanek (17th) Decker Atkins (21st), and AJ Larson (22nd). Evan, Owen, Cole, Sam and AJ all recorded personal records on the day in the race of 67 runners! For our Lady Spartans Junior High team, Olivia Walters came in 2nd place, capturing the silver medal with an outstanding time of 12:53!  Next up was Alena Wooldridge (15th), Zedie Click (16th), Lilly Ford (17th) and Maria Syvertsen (22nd). Both Lilly and Maria had personal records in their 56 person race. Great job at Brookville!

This weekend, our teams will travel to Bishop Hartley and we are once again looking forward to an outstanding performance by this talented group of Spartan runners!
