We are glad to announce that our team now has ten members with four returning from last year. This is a young team with only one senior. This year’s team members are: Captain Taylor Quinn- Senior and 1st year Morgan Achard-Junior and 2nd year Roslyn Papetti- Junior and 2nd year Natalie Wygandt- Junior and 2nd year Carly Connor- Sophomore and 2nd year Katelyn Abney-Freshman and 1st year Crystal Green-Freshman and 1st year Hannah Selk- Freshman and 1st year Anna Perry-Freshman and 1st year. I am look forward to see what this team can do. I invite all tennis fans to come and watch. This next week’s schedule is: Monday, Aug 22nd Clinton-Massie Tuesday, Aug 23rd at Carlisle Thursday, Aug 25th home with Dixie GOLF The 2016 boys golf team consists of Dagan Stiles, Cameron Adams, Jackson Beachler, Hunter Clements, Ryan Fowler, Cooper Fravel, Drake Stiles, Joey Cockerham, Bryce Daniel, and Joe Hobbs. This is a young and inexperienced group of young men who are learning and improving each day. The season has been off to a fast start. The Varsity team placed 4th in the Buckeye Division at the SWBL Ryder Cup and 9th at the Ridge Classic. The Varsity team has been led by Drake Stiles (45.25 average) in their four dual matches against Dixie, Brookville, Milton Union, and Little Miami, but the Spartans are still waiting on their first win. The JV team led by Bryce Daniel was victorious over Little Miami JV at Majestic Springs Thursday evening. The team will compete against Valley View and Monroe next Tuesday and Thursday. VOLLEYBALL The high school volleyball teams have been working hard and begin their season tomorrow (Saturday) with a home tri-match with Franklin and Southeastern. Play begins at 10:00, with Varsity in the high school gym and JV in the middle school gym. Do Not stand on the traveled portion of the roadway while waiting for a bus; • Maintain proper conduct; • Respect the property of others; • Wait until the bus has stopped; then walk to the front door. Do Not run alongside a moving bus; • Board the bus in an orderly fashion; and • Use the bus stop closest to their home. Walking to a friend’s house to catch a bus often causes overcrowding at a given stop. WELLNESS HEART ATTACK WARNING SIGNS Some heart attacks are sudden and intense – the “movie heart attack,” where no one doubts what’s happening. But most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Often people affected aren’t sure what’s wrong and wait too long before getting help. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is happening: Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain. Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach. Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort. Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness. As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, and back or jaw pain. Learn the signs, but remember this: Even if you’re not sure it’s a heart attack, have it checked out (tell a doctor about your symptoms). Minutes matter! Fast action can save lives – maybe your own. Don’t wait more than five minutes to call 9-1-1 or your emergency response number. Calling 9-1-1 is almost always the fastest way to get lifesaving treatment. Emergency medical services (EMS) staff can begin treatment when they arrive – up to an hour sooner than if someone gets to the hospital by car. EMS staff are also trained to revive someone whose heart has stopped. Patients with chest pain who arrive by ambulance usually receive faster treatment at the hospital, too. It is best to call EMS for rapid transport to the emergency room. For more information visit the American Heart Association’s website at www.heart.org . 2016/2017 SEVENTH GRADE VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS The Ohio Department of Health has revised the School Immunization Requirements effective January 4, 2010. All students are to receive an additional dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis) vaccine BEFORE entering the seventh grade. If your child has received a Tdap vaccine within 5 years of entering the seventh grade (2012 or later), this will meet the requirement. Additionally, beginning with the start of the 2016-2017 school year, one dose of meningococcal vaccine is required prior to entry into the 7th grade. This requirement is met if your student has had this vaccine at any time before entering 7th grade. 2016/2017 SENIOR VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS Meningococcal: Beginning with the start of the 2016-2017 school year, all pupils entering the 12th grade are required to be vaccinated against meningococcal. A second (2nd) dose of meningococcal) vaccine is required prior to entry into the 12th grade. The second (2nd) dose must be administered on or after the 16th birthday with at least eight (8) weeks between the first and second dose. If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required. If a pupil is 15 years of age or younger, only one dose is required.
