Lady Spartans Soccer Wins 6th SWBL Championship in a Row, Finish Regular Season Undefeated!

Waynesville clinched its 15th win of the regular season Thursday night with an 8-0 victory over Dixie.  Emma Whitaker got things started early with a one-touch finish off Maddie Beuchat's assist.  Jenna Foley followed up with goal #2 off of Whitaker's through ball.  Allie Freese headed the ball into the back of the net off of Hannah Gill's corner kick for goal #3.  Whitaker and Foley connected again for goal #4 when Whitaker slotted the ball through Dixie's defense for Foley to finish inside the far post.  Foley earned a hat trick for the night four minutes later when she finished Gill's assist and then assisted Brooke Woody's goal putting the Spartans up 6-0.  Reagan Hardyman put goal #7 in the back of the net off an assist from Teagan Cassidy.  Freese scored the final goal of the game by finishing Emme Greely's assist.  Defenders Emma Sizer, Savanna Amburgy, Kate Handle, Laine Kuhns, and Emme Greely along with goalkeeper Leah Butterbaugh earned their 12th shutout of the season.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Spartans played back to back games against Fenwick and Preble Shawnee.  Waynesville beat Preble Shawnee 10-0 on the road to win the SWBL Buckeye Championship outright, which is their 6th consecutive League Championship.  Foley (2), Gill (2), Whitaker (2), Beuchat (2), Erbach (1), and Woody (1) all scored for the Spartans.  Setting up their teammates for success with key assists were Freese (2), Erbach (1), Foley (1), Beuchat (1), Kate Handle (1), Bulach(1), and Woody (1).  The Lady Spartans also won a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Fenwick Monday night.  Beuchat scored first off a throw-in from Savanna Amburgy six minutes into the game.  Foley scored a key goal #2 for the Spartans with 7:50 to go in the game off a beautiful set-up pass from Erbach.

Waynesville also beat Madison at home last Tuesday 5-0.  Erbach (2), Beuchat (1), Gill (1), and Woody (1) all scored for the Lady Spartans off of assists from Beuchat (1), Freese (1), Amburgy (1), Kuhns (1), and Libby Bulach (1).    With these last 4 wins, Waynesville wraps up their regular season undefeated with a record of 15-0-0.  With their 15th win, this 2020 team broke the team record for most consecutive wins in a season, which was previously 14 wins in 2002.  Waynesville looks to continue their winning ways as they begin the tournament with their first game on October 24 at 7 pm at home.  Tickets will be pre-sold online for this game (more details to come).

The JV also wrapped up their season this week with wins over Madison and Preble Shawnee and a loss to Fenwick.  The JV beat Madison 4-0 last week.  Libby Bulach, Jenna Bulcher (2), and Emmy Lezotte all scored in the win assisted by Jillian Layne (2) and Danie Scamorza.  Against Fenwick on Monday, the JV jumped out to an early lead with a goal by Bulach, but ultimately fell to the Falcons 3-1.  They bounced back on Tuesday with a 5-0 win over Preble Shawnee.  Bulcher, Reagan Russell, Layne, Scamorza, and Samantha Boswell all scored for the Lady Spartans assisted by Kyla Harvey and Layne.  The JV finish their season as league champions, as well!
