DR. SAM ISON, HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

After 42 years in public education, Waynesville High School Principal, Dr. Sam Ison, has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2020-21 school year. Dr. Ison is widely known and respected in education circles as a highly successful principal, superintendent, and professor. He has served as our WHS principal since 2017. Dr. Ison emphasizes relationships, and the size of our high school has allowed him to work directly with students. One of his legacies will be the commitment to a very positive experience for our students during the Covid-19 pandemic. Retirement means Sam will miss seeing and interacting with the students and staff on a daily basis. “I have enjoyed my time with Wayne Local Schools and appreciate the support everyone has provided me during my tenure.” Previously, he was Superintendent of Schools and a District Level Administrator at Middletown City Schools (2011- 2017). Prior to Middletown, Dr. Ison was High School Principal at Lebanon High School (1996 – 2011) and Springfield Northwestern High School (1995-1996). He started his education career at Milton-Union as a Social Studies Teacher (1979-1986) and Middle School Principal (1986-1995). He will continue to be an Adjunct Professor with Xavier University’s Graduate School. “Wayne Local Schools and the Waynesville Community will always have a special place in my heart.”

Best wishes and congratulations to Sam on his well-deserved retirement. Sam’s stewardship, passion, guidance, expertise, and leadership will leave a lasting imprint on many students, staff, community, and colleagues.
