Waynesville Varsity Volleyball opens season 2-1, JV is 2-0!
The Varsity team traveled to Southeastern on Saturday to defeat the Trojans in 3 sets: 25-20, 25-23, and 27-25. Leading the Spartans were Senior setter Dora Vrettos with 6 aces and 21 assists, Junior Middle Hitter Reagan Blanton with 10 kills, Junior Middle Hitter Megan Zebell with 8 kills and 1 block, and Junior Kenna Harvey with 12 digs.
Both Varsity and JV played Oakwood on Tuesday in their first home matches. The JV team started out slow with service errors, but came on in games 2 and 3 to defeat the visiting Oakwood, 17-25, 25-18, 25-13. Topping the Spartan stats were Anna Hapner with 4 aces, 9 kills, 4 digs; Fallon Bradford had 4 aces, and Jenna Turner had 5 assists.
The Varsity team fell to the strong Oakwood team in 3 sets, 22-25, 18-25, and 15-25. Stat leaders were Dora Vrettos with 4 aces, 5 kills, and 7 assists, Kenna Harvey with 5 kills and 7 digs, Kenzie Purkey also with 7 digs, and Reagan Blanton with 2 blocks.
On Thursday, we hosted Monroe and both teams chalked up a victory! The JV team dropped the first set 24-25, but then won 25-20 and 25-17. Stat leaders were Jenna Turner with 8 aces, 12 assists, 4 digs and Anna Hapner with 8 kills and 1 block.
The Varsity team played a great match, defeating the Hornets in 3 sets, 25-20, 25-22, 28-26. Leading the team were Dora Vrettos with 13 assists, 7 kills, and 12 digs; Reagan Blanton with 7 kills and 4 blocks; Megan Zebell added 6 kills, 8 digs, and 1 block; and Senior Ashton Rice chipped in with 4 aces.
Next week the volleyball team travels to Franklin on Monday, to Carlisle on Tuesday, and hosts Dixie at home on Thursday.
