WHS Swim Team Caps The Season At State

The Waynesville High School Swim Team caps off its amazing season at the OHSAA State Swimming and Diving meet in Canton, Ohio last weekend.  Junior Owen Conley led the Spartans with a pair of gold medals; one in the 200 Freestyle and the other in the 200 Individual Medley. To top it off he also broke his own state record in the 200 Individual Medley.

The girl’s team was led by freshman Audrey Conley making her first appearance at the big meet.  She placed 9th in the 200 Freestyle and a huge 3rd place finish in the 500 Freestyle; a giant accomplishment for a freshman.  The girl’s relay team of Audrey Conley, Devyn Olson, Anicca Sivsov, and Lindsey Worthington swam both the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay just missing making finals, placing 21st and 17th respectively. With three of the four girls as freshman, this looks great for next year. Devyn Olson also qualified in the 100 Butterfly where she placed 19th.

Our other qualifier, Junior Will Kelley, reached states in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke.  He placed 18th in the 100 Freestyle before injuring himself.

The team places itself in an excellent position for next years’ return to the big stage with such a young group of swimmers.
