The Wayne Local School District is saddened by the sudden loss of Lonnie Schear, a local man whose heart and soul supported the Waynesville community in numerous ways.

Lonnie was an alumni, community member, longtime supporter, and friend.  Lonnie's legacy, his story, is etched on the community in a grand way.

He will forever be remembered.   Last week at the home basketball game, Lonnie’s son Lonnie David “LD” Schear and nephew Tony Garafolo honored Lonnie with a statement and a moment of silence.

As many of you know our town has lost a pillar of the community this weekend. Lonnie Schear class of 1967 was in a tragic car accident Saturday afternoon with his wife Connie, and he is no longer with us today.

Lonnie would have been here tonight, standing underneath the basket in his spot, supporting the Spartans.

Lonnie will be sorely missed by his family and our whole village.  Lonnie was a US Marine. He was a Wayne Township volunteer fire fighter and EMT for 30 years.  He was a local banker for 47 years and looking to retire at the end of this month.

He was an avid Spartan fan and supporter of community. Please keep Connie in your thoughts and prayers as she remains in the hospital in critical condition.  Services for Lonnie have not been arranged at this time. Please join us in a moment of silence as we remember Lonnie.
