Incoming Kindergarten Age Requirement Update for 2026-27

Important update for families of incoming kindergarteners (2026–27): Beginning in March 2026, Ohio law (Ohio Revised Code 3321.01) will use a single, statewide kindergarten age requirement. To enroll in kindergarten, a child must be five years old on or before the first day of instruction.

For Waynesville Elementary School (WES), that means children who turn five on or before August 21, 2026, are eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2026–27 school year.

Enrollment will open in early February. If your child’s birthday falls after August 21, 2026, they will need to wait to start kindergarten the following year.
