Winter Weather Safety Tips for Students

Jan 27, 2026

With extremely cold temperatures in the forecast for the next several days, we want to assure Wayne Local families that we are closely monitoring conditions and will communicate promptly through ParentSquare if anything changes.

Our winter weather decisions are guided by student safety, especially for students waiting at bus stops or walking across parking lots. When temperatures and wind chills reach extreme levels, even short exposure can be dangerous.

To help students stay safe, please take a few extra precautions:

  • Dress in layers: wear a coat (Light-colored clothing is easier for bus drivers to see).
  • Cover exposed skin: use gloves/mittens and hats.
  • Arrive at the bus stop just before pickup time to limit time outside.
  • Stand back from the roadway, stay visible, and watch for ice on the pavement.
